Matt Some communications cross languages and cultures and even eras. This is one of them. Fast, furious, emotive, baroque, and evocative. Have you ever experienced longing to see a time and place you never visited? Well, you will if you listen to this album.

Ippocalyptica This is easily 2023’s benchmark for melodic black metal. SÜHNOPFER will please fans of Véhémence and Aorlhac (and other medieval, melodic black metal) who want the most uncompromising vision of this sub-genre. The only “criticism” that one could reasonably level at Nous sommes d’Hier is the same for previous albums: Ardraos only knows how to play at light-speed. Yes, but he does SO much at those tempos and it is all so elegant AND muscular. So baroque, so beautiful, so masterfully realised! Favorite track: Pays d'Allen.

about

SÜHNOPFER, hailing from the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of France, return with their most fully realised release to-date of blasting, emotive, edge-of-seat Baroque Black Metal.

"Nous sommes d'Hier", the band's 4th full length since formation in 2001, finds sole member and multi-instrumentalist Ardraos continuing to explore a medieval universe in his quest to restore the tarnished glory of the Bourbons - marching between the Middle Ages and the modern era to weave compulsive tales of dark times, remembered legends and places that resonate with the death of an age.

Using master musicianship and tightly honed songwriting SÜHNOPFER intertwine frantically flowing drums, ardent volleys of shapeshifting classical guitar melodies and desperately impassioned vocals. The album incorporates choral themes from Baroque composers Charpentier and Cherubini, and features a guest spot for Vindsval (BLUT AUS NORD) providing choirs/lead guitar to the exceptional "Sermon sur le Trépassement".

The record concludes with "Le Bal des Laze", a cover version of a late '60s song from French chanson artist Polnareff. Performed originally as a funeral march, the track lends itself perfectly to a Black Metal adaptation and epitomises SÜHNOPFER's sense of daring as a living emanation from a boisterous past.

Sühnopfer Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, France

SÜHNOPFER delivers a violent medieval and melodic atmosphere, with themes dealing with a
medieval, knightly, and religious dimension by adding typical aspects of his powerful and
